UM Sustainable Development Centre (SDC) representing the Sustainability and Cleanliness Committee of Majlis Raikan Syawal UM 2025, we extend our appreciation to all of our UM community for your active contribution in making the event greener and sustainable.
Committee of Majlis Raikan Syawal 2025.
Through your contribution, we managed to collect:
1. Organic waste (mainly food waste) to be converted to organic compost at UM Zero Waste Campaign site: 453.85 kg
2. In-organic waste: 662.05 kg
Overall: 1,115.9 kg (1 tonne) of waste successfully separated at source within five (5) hours (10 am - 3 pm).
From organic waste collected, UM managed to divert
335 kg CO2e emissions equivalent from ending up in landfills through the greening enculturation of Majlis Raikan Syawal UM 2025.
The amount is equivalent to:
carbon sequestered by 6 tree seedlings grown for 10 years /
carbon dioxide emissions from 27,084 number of smartphones charged /
Greenhouse Gases (GHG) emissions avoided from 29 trash bags of waste recycled instead of landfilled

Coincidentally, the UM community also celebrated Earth Day on April 22, 2025. It was a unique event where the Raya celebration intersected with Earth Day, featuring green decorations, walkabouts by animal mascots, and continuous announcements promoting Earth Day and sustainable practices. With the support of volunteers, we distributed 200 mini Pothos plants in 200 mini glass jars, upcycled from the Faculty of Medicine's laboratory.
200 Pothos plants were given away to visitors.
The sustainable practices poster was displayed during the event.
