Welcome to the FYP SDG@UM Program!

At Universiti Malaya, we are proud to introduce the Final Year Project Sustainable Development Goals @ Universiti Malaya (FYP SDG@UM), an innovative initiative designed to empower our students to tackle real-world sustainability challenges. Building on the success of our Campus Sustainability Final Year Project, FYP SDG@UM expands its reach beyond the campus, focusing on urban sustainability and the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

This program is a testament to UM’s commitment to becoming a leader in sustainable higher education. By aligning Final Year Projects with the SDGs, we aim to foster a culture of excellence, innovation, and environmental responsibility among our undergraduates. Through this initiative, students will develop holistic skills to address pressing sustainability issues, contributing to a more sustainable and equitable future.

The overarching theme of FYP SDG@UM session 2024/2025 is "SDGs for Just Net Zero and Urban Sustainability", emphasizing the importance of achieving carbon neutrality in an equitable manner while promoting environmentally responsible, economically viable, and socially inclusive urban development.

Key Objectives:
● To support Final Year Undergraduate Projects (FYPs) addressing sustainability challenges within Universiti Malaya and beyond, particularly in the urban context of the Klang Valley where UM campus is located. These projects align with the UM Sustainability Policy 2021-2030, the UM EcoCampus Blueprint, and the university's Carbon Neutral and Net Zero vision.
● To equip students with the skills to conduct responsible, action-oriented research and actively engage in addressing real-world sustainability challenges within the framework of the SDGs.
● To empower students to play a key role in accelerating Universiti Malaya’s transition towards a sustainable, equitable, and net-zero campus, while extending their impact beyond the university.

With 10 Work Packages ranging from sustainable energy and mobility to zero waste solutions and climate adaptation, students will have the opportunity to work on multidisciplinary projects that align with UM’s Sustainability Policy, EcoCampus Blueprint, and Carbon Neutral vision. Each project is supported by expert mentors and strategic partners, ensuring that students receive the guidance and resources needed to make a meaningful impact.
