GreenHouse Gases (GHG) and Carbon Emission Tracking for UM

Gases that trap heat in the atmosphere are called greenhouse gases. Carbon dioxide (CO2) is the primary greenhouse gas emitted through human activities. In realizing UM's target to be a carbon-neutral campus by 2050, we track our performance in terms of carbon dioxide emissions annually, with 2016 as our baseline year.

Important note: the calculation of carbon emission data provided in this section is based on the annual campus sustainability performance assessments hosted by UI GreenMetric World University Rankings

Reference on calculation: https://www.carbonfootprint.com - the sum of electricity and transportation per year
i. 0.84 is the kWh conversion coefficient to metric ton
ii. 240 is the number of working days per year
iii. 0.01 is the coefficient to calculate the emission in metric tons per 100km per bus
iv. 0.02 is the coefficient to calculate the emission in metric tons per 100km per car
v. 0.01 is the coefficient to calculate the emission in metric tons per 100km for a motorcycle

This section is coordinated by UM Sustainability and Development Centre (UMSDC) with the support of UM Corporate Data Centre (CDC), data to be updated annually.
