Water Warriors is an initiative to help revive and rehabilitate the water bodies on campus. This project would like to introduce citizen science. What is citizen science? It's scientific research conducted by amateur, community, or non-professional scientists.
Our cause depends solely on our passionate volunteers who want to do more than just talk.
Water Warriors is an environmental project on the campus for the protection and conservation of water bodies at the Universiti Malaya. The project started off as an outreach program that builds public awareness and involvement in protecting water resources around the campus by engaging the community to conduct basic monitoring, a term known as ‘citizen science. In the spirit of the community aimed toward bringing back the sense of ownership, the program is not only focusing on monitoring but also on involvement in ‘gotong-royong’ and public reporting on water leakages on the campus. Water Warriors are also deeply passionate about documenting flora and fauna, especially freshwater habitats such as aquatic insects, waterfowl, and wetland plants.
Water Warriors was initiated as a bottom-up initiative in 2012; one of the senior and pioneer initiatives of UM Living Labs focusing on water management on the campus.
