In conjunction with MRA Siswa’s flagship project - the For Siswa From Siswa project, the Environment Department of MRA Siswa is most honored to collaborate with Universiti Malaya Sustainability & Development Centre (UMSDC) and UM Library for a clothes donation drive.

The clothes donation drive seeks to collect old clothes from the public and convert them into cash at second-hand boutique stores, dedicated to the For Siswa From Siswa charity fund. Also, grabbing this opportunity, MRA Siswa seeks to instill environmental awareness in the public that the fabrics that are not usable could be resold and recycled for a good cause.

What is the clothes donation fund, and how does it work?
MRA Siswa would set up collection points for the clothes donation drive, primarily at university and college compounds and at the MRA Warehouse. On the day of the campaign (24 March 2023), the MRA Siswa team set up their booth to collect old clothes from students of the Universiti Malaya. Students carried their bags of old clothes.

Bringing the FSFS donation drive environmental program to an end, MRA Siswa managed to collect funds of RM 91 in total. During the UM collection drive, we managed to collect RM17. All funds donated are dedicated to underprivileged students from local universities. MRA Siswa extends its sincere gratitude to those from UM who took part in this initiative and carried their old clothes to our collection points for charitable use. MRA Siswa also hopes that our program has helped the public to realize that fabric donation is a way to reduce fabric waste. However, the public should be mindful when purchasing clothes to avoid over-cluttering of clothes at home. And the fact that it takes 2,720 liters of water to make one cotton shirt and 7,000 liters of water to make one pair of jeans!

Report by MRA Siswa

On behalf of Universiti Malaya (UMSDC and UM Library), we extend our thanks to MRA Siswa for their continuous effort in partnership with UM to promote a sustainable lifestyle while taking care of the well-being of the student communities nationwide.
