The Strategic Workshop on the Direction of UM Zero Waste Campaign and UMZWC Gallery, held at the JHB's Cube Meeting Room on 13th of March 2024, was instrumental in shaping the future trajectory of sustainability efforts at Universiti Malaya. The dynamic discussions aimed at identifying challenges and proposing innovative solutions to propel the UM Zero Waste Campaign forward were attended by members of UMSDC (Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zeeda Fatimah Mohamad, Mr. Mohd Fadhli Rahmat Fakri, Dr. Azizi Abu Bakar & Mr. Affan Nasaruddin), Estates Department - JHB (Ar. Dr. Sharifah Noor Nazim Syed Yahya, En. Husni On, Pn. Zarina Shariff, En. Maszairizam Masri, En. Noor Azril Ramli, En. Hisyam, En. Muhammad Arif Mohd Nazir) and UM ZWC (Assoc. Prof. Dr. Noor Zalina Mahmood, Pn. Mairuzasmara Fariza Azlan & En. Hisyamudin Che Harun)

A significant portion of the workshop was dedicated to envisioning the UM ZWC's governance and future outlook, with ideas on expanding recycling programs, promoting reusable alternatives, and fostering enculturation of sustainability practices on campus through the lense of circular economy approach.

Central to the workshop was the UM ZWC Gallery concept, which generated excitement and enthusiasm. The gallery, envisioned as a central hub for showcasing success stories and educational resources related to sustainable waste management practices, promises to inspire and educate the university community and external parties. The potential impact of the gallery is raising awareness and fostering a deeper long term commitment to environmental stewardship within the campus community. At the end of this workshop, Ar. Dr. Sharifah (Executive Director of JHB) received UMSDC's #UMSustainability Glass Drinking Bottles as part of our campus sustainability initiative to minimize single-use plastics in meetings and events hosted by respective centers or departments.
