Climate Superhero: Campus-led Climate Change Mitigation Campaign (CCMC) through Gamification
UM EcoCampus Living Lab - Action Research Exploring the Power of Gamification for a Greener Future

In an innovative initiative to combat climate change, one of the UM EcoCampus@UM Living Labs project under EcoCampus, UM Sustainable Development Centre (UMSDC) organized a Climate Change Mitigation Campaign (CCMC) in search of Universiti Malaya's very own Climate Superhero (Superhero Iklim), employing gamification strategies for a more sustainable future. The program, which commenced on October 30, 2023, featured group challenges and training sessions spanning six weeks.

Participants engaged in tasks aimed at addressing climate change, including identifying energy-intensive appliances, reducing daily energy consumption, recycling materials, implementing energy-saving projects, minimizing carbon footprint, and educating others on climate change mitigation strategies.

Exclusive to UM staff and students aged 18 and above, participants collaborated in groups to complete tasks, fostering teamwork and collective action toward sustainability objectives. This project, part of the UM EcoCampus Living Lab Grant (LL2023ECO014) under the UM Sustainable Development Centre (UMSDC), aimed to explore gamification's effectiveness in promoting pro-environmental behaviours.

By gamifying climate change mitigation efforts, UM aimed to inspire and empower participants to embrace sustainable practices in their daily lives. The CCMC provided a platform for experiential learning and behaviour change, driving tangible progress toward a more sustainable campus and community.
