Sustainability@Universiti Malaya Steering Committee champions a visionary mission to cultivate a sustainable, carbon-neutral, and net-zero campus environment in alignment with our institution's core values. Convening a minimum of thrice annually under the guidance of a Chairperson, the Associate Vice-Chancellor (Corporate Strategy) a member of UM executive leadership, a Steering Committee comprises esteemed members from Corporate Rankings Centre (CRC), UM Sustainable Development Centre (UMSDC), and various keys stakeholder representative
(academic & non- academic staff) we called UM SDG Champions, further empowered and supported by a group of 
Sustainability Coordinators @ PTj (Responsibility Centers) across all portfolios. 


About UM SDG Champions

The appointment of UM SDG Champions consists of a group of staff members from Universiti Malaya, selected by the University based on their expertise and knowledge related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The appointed staff will serve from 7th August 2024 to 31st December 2026 and play a crucial role in providing advice, insights, and contributions on strategies to advance the University's sustainability initiatives, thereby enhancing the University's performance in sustainability-related rankings. 


Meet the UM SDG Champions

Get to know the UM SDG Champions – a dedicated team of staff working together to advance sustainability and drive meaningful change at Universiti Malaya.

The UM SDG Champions works closely with the Office of the Associate Vice Chancellor (Corporate Strategy), particularly the Universiti Malaya Sustainable Development Centre (UM SDC) and the Corporate Ranking Centre (CRC), and will be responsible for the following tasks:

1. Advising the University on sustainability agendas, particularly related to the assigned SDGs.

2. Understanding and advising on the operational definitions for each assigned SDG indicator.

3. Assessing the University's strengths and weaknesses for the assigned SDGs, based on best practices and the actual needs and priorities of the University.

4. Providing guidance on data sources and strategies for data collection processes based on relevant sustainability ranking indicators.

5. Assisting and advising UM SDC and CRC in preparing materials and evidence for all sustainability rankings the University participates in.

6. Supporting improvements and verification of data from the data control and management teams under CRC and UM SDC.

7. Providing advice on report writing for the assigned SDGs, with support from UM SDC and CRC staff.
