The Higher Education Leadership Academy (AKEPT) initiative, in partnership with Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) and the Ministry of Higher Education, recently organized the "Program Kemajuan Transformatif Ke Arah Matlamat Pembangunan Lestari: Wacana Amalan Terbaik Universiti Sains Malaysia." This program aimed to share USM's best practices in Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) implementation, fostering a transformative approach towards sustainable development.

Representatives from various institutions of higher education, including members from Universiti Malaya, actively participated in this knowledge-sharing endeavor. The collaborative engagement emphasized a collective commitment to integrating sustainability into the core fabric of Malaysian universities. USM's success stories and practices served as valuable templates, encouraging broader enculturation of sustainable development initiatives.

The keynote sharing session was delivered by Professor Dato' Seri Ir. Dr. Abdul Rahman Mohamed, FASc, Vice Chancellor of USM. The session followed by an interactive forum with the following panelists: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohd Wira Mohd Shafei (Director, Centre for Global Sustainability Studies), Profesor Dr. Saidatulakmal Mohd (Professor, Centre for Social Sciences, Universiti Sains Malaysia), and Dr. Bugs Tan (Industry representative from ViTrox Technologies Sdn. Bhd.), moderated by Mr. Mohamad Hafizi Rosli (Head of Corporate Communications MOHE).

By facilitating an exchange of ideas and experiences, the AKEPT program underscores the importance of a united front in achieving SDGs within the higher education landscape. This initiative not only propels USM's leadership in sustainability but also inspires a nationwide movement towards cultivating a culture of responsible and impactful practices among diverse institutions of higher learning. The event, with its diverse representation, reflects a pivotal step in harmonizing efforts for a more sustainable and resilient future in Malaysian academia.

UM members are represented by two key entities:
UM Corporate Data Centre (CDC) led by Professor Dr. Nazia Abd. Majid (Director) and UM Sustainability and Development Centre (UMSDC) led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zeeda Fatimah Mohamad (Director).
