A one-day sustainability program co-led by Imarah Green Project and Imarah Eco-Friends UM members in partnership with JAWI & Al-Ikhlasiah Mosque with support of UM Sustainability and Development Centre (UM SDC) celebrates their second year of hosting Eco-Bazaar @ Mosque in the month of Ramadan.
This program aims to promote responsible consumption and a sustainable lifestyle to the public, particularly in Muslim communities. Eco-Bazaar @ Mosque alleviates the green market concept by highlighting the values of reusable items such as clothing and household accessories to be sold as a preloved item at a minimal yet affordable price as part of the preparation for Eid. A total of RM1,268.00 gross income was generated from this Eco-Bazaar, divided between Imarah Eco-Friends and Al-Ikhlasiah Mosque to further support more green initiatives in the future. Used cooking oils collection was also part of this Bazaar to highlight the importance of a circular economy for planetary health on a broader scope.
YBhg. Datuk Haji Mohd Ajib Ismail, Director General of the Federal Territory Islamic Religious Department (JAWI), graced the occasion by officiating the program and delivered the Aidilfitri aid to a group of asnaf (those eligible for tithe) residing in Pantai Dalam neighborhood. Professor Dr. Sumiani Yusoff (Director, Institute of Ocean and Earth Sciences/IOES and Eco-Campus@UM Advisor) complemented the one-day program with a keynote speech on Sustainable Consumption, Recycling, and the Prophet Muhammad PBUH's Teaching on Sustainable Lifestyle. Special thanks and congratulations to YBrs. Tuan Haji Abas Mohamad Khatib (Chairperson, al-Ikhlasiah Mosque), Dr. Asmawati Muhamad (Project Leader, Imarah Green Project UM), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Siti Arni Basir (Director, Eco-Bazaar @ al-Ikhlasiah Mosque) and all the green volunteers.
UM and JAWI set to ink an official partnership with MoU in May 2022 to implement green mosque advocacy in Federal Territories under JAWI.
