Recognizing the vital role of media in mainstreaming sustainability responsibly:
Exploratory discussion between UM and Hijau Media Group
SDG 16.10 states that public access to information and fundamental freedoms cannot be achieved without independent media, which can help achieve all SDGs – covering gender equality, climate change, eliminating poverty, reducing inequalities, and sustainable cities.
Mr. Simon Wong, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Hijau Media Group (HMG), with its tagline: 'Promoting SDGs across the Region,' introduces Greenplus Asia, Malaysia's premier magazine focusing on promoting and educating the mass on eco-friendly, sustainable lifestyles and green business. Its goals are to disseminate relevant government information on a green roadmap, policies, and directives and share views on authoritative eco-friendly and sustainable green issues.
UM, represented by UM Sustainability and Development Centre (UMSDC) team, is exploring opportunities for collaboration with Hijau Media Group to welcome UM sustainability cohorts to contribute articles and writeups (non-technical/academic category targeting mass readers) and also extending the invitation as a potential partner for the upcoming UM Sustainability Festival 2023.
UM thanks, Hijau Media Group, for visiting us to initiate the exploratory discussion and all the printed publications by Hijau Media Group as a token of remembrance.
UMSDC believes that media play a vital role in mainstreaming sustainability in a responsible and welcoming manner, which could spur more actions from society in various age groups.
