A one-day cause with Eco-Bazaar @ Mosque to promote sustainable consumerism and lifestyle was co-hosted by Imarah Green Project and Imarah Eco-Friends UM members in partnership with JAWI & Ar-Rahimah Kg. Pandan Mosque with the support of UM Sustainability and Development Centre (UM SDC).
This first Eco-Bazaar @ Mosque at Ar-Rahimah Kg. Pandan Mosque continued the spirit of partnership to aid the preparation of the Aidilfitri celebration for the Muslim communities through the green market concept of preloved sales and collection of used cooking oils. RM1,490.00 gross income was generated from this Eco-Bazaar, divided between Imarah Eco-Friends and Ar-Rahimah Kg. Pandan Mosque. One of the main objectives of this program is to promote the idea of a circular economy while protecting the environment through responsible consumerism among Muslims.
YBrs. Tuan Haji Mohd Fadzil Abu Kasim, Deputy Director of Operations of the Federal Territory Islamic Religious Department (JAWI), graced the occasion by officiating the program. Tn Hj Mohd Shah Hasim (Chairperson, Ar-Rahimah Kg Pandan Mosque) welcomed the guests with his introductory speech. Professor Dr. Nik Meriam Nik Sulaiman (Honorary Professor and Advisor of UM SDC) shared her keynote speech on 5Rs (Refuse, Rethink, Reduce, Reuse and Recycle), cleanliness, moderation (wasatiyyah), and continuous improvement for the greater good (istiqamah). Special thanks to YBrs. Tuan Haji Mohd Shah Hasim (Chairperson, Ar-Rahimah Kg. Pandan Mosque), Dr. Asmawati Muhamad (Project Leader, Imarah Green Project UM), Dr. Shahidra Abdul Khalil (Director, Eco-Bazaar @ Ar-Rahimah Kg. Pandan Mosque) and all the green volunteers.
This program is part of the Green Mosque partnership project roll-out led by JAWI in collaboration with Universiti Malaya. Ar-Rahimah Kg. Pandan Mosque is on its track as the pilot mosque under JAWI for both Smart and Green Mosque.
