[Carbon Neutrality Acceleration]
Focus Group Discussion on Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Reporting Practices and Preparation of Reporting Guideline

In a significant step towards sustainability, one of the Carbon Neutrality Acceleration Living Lab projects has initiated a Carbon Neutrality Focus Group Discussion (FGD) aimed at fostering a needed dialogue on Greenhouse Gas (GHG) reporting practices in Malaysia, with a particular focus on Hi0gher Education Institutions (HEIs).

UM Carbon Neutrality Acceleration Living Lab grant LL2022CN003, under the purview by the Universiti Malaya Sustainable Development Centre (UMSDC), the discussion is part of a broader project execution focused on developing a digital dashboard to monitor and manage GHG emissions data at Universiti Malaya.

The FGD was attended by members of UMSDC (Mr. Mohd Fadhli Rahmat Fakri, Dr. Azizi Abu Bakar, Mr. Affan Nasaruddin, & Ms. Nuratikah Mohd Zainodin), UM Living Lab Fellows (Dr. Sarah Abdul Razak - Faculty of Science, Dr. Fathiah Mohamed Zuki - Faculty of Engineering, Dr. Fung Hon Ngen - Faculty of Science, Dr. Nor Malina Manan - Faculty of Dentistry, Dr. M. Shakeel Ahmad - HICoE UMPEDAC), Department of Development and Estate Maintenance (Mr. Noor Azril Ramli), and students. This FGD is chaired by Dr. Fong Chng Saun (Project Leader LL2022CN003) and co-moderated by Ts. Raja Shazrin Shah Raja Ehsan Shah (Founding Director, Galaxy Tech Solutions (KL) Sdn. Bhd.)

This FGD serves as a key output of the project, providing a platform for experts and stakeholders, to engage in constructive discourse. The primary objectives include assessing the current state of GHG reporting, particularly in the context of Malaysian universities, and soliciting feedback on a draft GHG reporting guideline crafted by the project team.

With sustainability at the forefront of UM's agenda, the FGD represents a concerted effort to drive tangible progress towards carbon neutrality. By fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange, UM aims to refine GHG reporting frameworks, enhance transparency, and accelerate the transition towards a low-carbon future. This initiative is part of the UM's aspiration to be a carbon-neutral campus by 2030 and net-zero institution by 2050.

Credit goes to Dr. Fong Chng Saun [UM Carbon Neutrality Acceleration Living Lab Project Leader on Centralized Digital Tool for a Localized Greenhouse Gas Emissions] and his team.
