A flourishing life on land is the foundation for our life on this planet Earth. Promoting sustainable use and management of our ecosystems and preserving biodiversity (both flora and fauna) is not a cause but rather the key to our survival.
Universiti Malaya (via Rimba Ilmu's Advisor Prof. Dr. Hj. Mohamed Abdul Majid, Dr. Yong Kien Thai from Institute of Biological Sciences, Faculty of Science UM, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zeeda Fatimah Mohamad, Director, UM Sustainability and Development Centre) received an invitation to attend the initial discussion meeting from Perbadanan Putrajaya (Botany Division, Department of Landscape and Parks).
This meeting aimed to explore areas of strategic collaboration on biodiversity conservation and botanical parks management between Rimba Ilmu UM and Putrajaya Botanical Garden. Two ways field visits to both botanical gardens by respective parties are in plan for the near future.
Biodiversity and landscape management is one of the 8 Core Areas of UM Eco-Campus Blueprint (UMECB). Rimba Ilmu, along with one of the pioneering sustainability living labs, The Rimba Project, is among the key contributors and prime movers working on implementing the action plans on biodiversity conservation. Universiti Malaya conveys our special thanks to Mr. Mohd Tajuddin Idris (Director, Botany Division, Perbadanan Putrajaya) and Mr. Mohamad Nazrin Ahmad Azmi for hosting the initial discussion. UM team received 'A Guide to Taman Botani Putrajaya' and 'Mekar Putrajaya/Putrajaya Blooms (the 2018 Award-Winning Book) featuring all the floras and uniqueness of the Putrajaya Botanical Garden.
