Campus Sustainability FYP@UM Kickoff Program Sparks an Exploration on SDGs and Just Net-Zero Solutions,

Campus Sustainability Final Year Project (FYP)@UM Kickoff program, themed "SDGs and Just Net-Zero," brings together 50 selected students and 35 dedicated supervisors from various faculties of Universiti Malaya (UM). Dr. Kenneth Fung Hon Ngen (UM EcoCampus Living Lab Project Leader of LL2023ECO010 Campus Sustainability FYP@UM) joined by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zeeda Fatimah Mohamad (Director, UMSDC) co-chaired the kickoff program to recap on the purpose and timeline of this program, which was then followed with ice-breaking session among the FYP students. Q&A Session at the end of the kickoff event was facilitated by UMSDC Research Officers: Mr. Mohd Fadhli Rahmat Fakri & Mr. Affan Nasaruddin pertaining to the Frequently Asked Questions and funding mechanism.
With a focus on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and achieving a Just Net-Zero environment, this initiative aims to empower students to design innovative solutions for campus sustainability through their Final Year Project (FYP). Through interdisciplinary collaboration and guidance from experienced supervisors, participants will explore strategies to reduce carbon emissions, promote social equity, and enhance environmental stewardship within the university community. This program not only fosters student engagement but also contributes to UM's commitment to sustainability and social responsibility. By harnessing the creativity and expertise of students and supervisors alike, the FYP@UM Kickoff program endeavors to catalyze positive change towards a more sustainable and equitable future.
UMSDC extends its appreciation to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research & Innovation), Department of Research Management (JPP/IPPP) for their institutional support which includes the creation of Campus Sustainability FYP@UM Small Grant under the coordination of EcoCampus, UM Sustainable Development Centre (UMSDC).
