Campus Sustainability FYP@UM 1st Session:
Capacity Building Workshop - Sustainability@UM Data Collection for Action Research
Collaboration between UM Sustainable Development Centre (UMSDC) & Data-Intensive Computing Centre (DICC)

UM Sustainable Development Centre (UMSDC) via UM EcoCampus Living Lab on Campus Sustainability FYP organized the first capacity building workshop of Campus Sustainability FYP@UM, focusing on 'Sustainability@UM Data Collection for Action Research'. Held in collaboration with Data-Intensive Computing Centre (DICC), the workshop took place in hybrid mode on 17th January 2024 at Workshop Room, Level 2, Research Management and Innovation Complex (KPPI) and via Microsoft Teams.

During the workshop, students participating in the Campus Sustainability FYP@UM program were equipped with essential skills and methodologies for collecting data crucial for action research projects related to campus sustainability. Led by experts from UMSDC and DICC, the session provided students with hands-on training and guidance on effective data collection techniques. Aligned with the theme Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and Just Net-Zero, this session was co-delivered by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zeeda Fatimah Mohamad (Director, UMSDC) together with two members from DICC: Mr. Teh Yee Heng and Mr. Chang Jit Kang.

The workshop underscored the significance of data-driven approaches in advancing sustainability initiatives within the university. By equipping students with the tools to collect and analyze data, UM aims to facilitate evidence-based decision-making and drive impactful change in campus sustainability efforts.

Through collaborative efforts between UMSDC, DICC, and participating students, UM is fostering a culture of environmental responsibility and empowering the next generation of sustainability leaders. The workshop served as a catalyst for student engagement and capacity building, enabling them to contribute meaningfully to UM's sustainability agenda through 'whole-campus approach'.

As UM continues its commitment to sustainability, initiatives like the Campus Sustainability Workshop play a pivotal role in nurturing a culture of campus sustainability stewardship and driving progress towards a more sustainable future.
