UMSDC Introduces Campus Sustainability Final Year Project (FYP) @ UM with Townhall Session
A total of 30 representatives from UM academic PTjs (faculties, centers, and academies) participated in the initial town hall session hosted by UM Sustainability and Development Centre (UMSDC) in introducing the Campus Sustainability FYP @ UM Program. This program is supported by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International) and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research & Innovation).
The theme chosen for this program is Just Net-Zero and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This program aims to bring together students and faculty members (program coordinators and supervisors) to explore the chosen theme to showcase innovative solutions and ideas to address the challenges within the UM campus while aligning with the SDGs.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zeeda Fatimah Mohamad (Director, UMSDC) and Dr. Kenneth Fung Hon Ngen (UM EcoCampus Living Lab Project Leader) co-chaired the Town hall session, with the support of EcoCampus Living Lab members and UMSDC team. Also attended Dr. Noor Suzaini Mohamed Zaid (Coordinator, EcoCampus@UM) and Mr. Noor Azril Ramli (Engineer and Coordinator, Environmental Sustainability and Health Section, JPPHB UM).
This program is a package of mentoring and capacity-building programs designed explicitly for 50 undergraduate students from various backgrounds, with the aspiration of UMSDC to train future sustainability-ready graduates. This exciting journey welcomes active collaboration from multi-stakeholders, including our local and international sustainability partners. The 50 students will ultimately showcase their FYP findings and solutions at UMSDC's Campus Sustainability FYP Symposium 2024.
With the spirit of 'Inspire, Be Inspired,' this FYP program is another call to action emphasizing the importance of partnerships and active participation from the campus community in achieving the net-zero vision and the SDGs.
