Dear UM Researchers,
The Universiti Malaya Sustainable Development Centre (UMSDC) is pleased to invite eligible UM academic staff to submit proposals for the UM Living Labs Towards Just Net Zero Grant 2026.
The UM Living Labs programme provides a platform for campus-based research and innovation, using Universiti Malaya as a living testbed for sustainability solutions. Through this initiative, researchers are encouraged to develop impactful projects that support UM’s sustainability agenda and contribute towards Carbon Neutrality and Net Zero aspirations.
Eligibility
UM academic staff, whether permanent or on a contract basis, are eligible to apply.
This grant is open to both Science & Technology (S&T) and Non-Science & Technology (Non-S&T) research. Researchers from all disciplines are encouraged to submit proposals that can contribute to sustainability solutions, including technical innovations, policy and governance approaches, behavioural change initiatives, education and awareness programmes, social innovation, campus-based interventions, and other relevant sustainability-related research.
Funding
The grant is capped at RM30,000 per application. Any requests for higher amounts shall not be considered.

Applicants are advised to refer to the attached UM Living Labs Grant Manual and Guidelines 2026 and UM Living Labs Grant Application Form 2026 before preparing their proposal.
Submission of Application
Completed application forms must be submitted via email to umsdc@um.edu.my by or before 8 June 2026.

All applicants will be required to participate in the proposal pitching and evaluation session as part of the assessment process.
