Universiti Malaya, through UM Sustainability and Development Centre (UMSDC), signed a two-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) strategic partnership with the Malaysia Green Technology and Climate Change Corporation (MGTC) on 13 October 2022, in conjunction with the International Greentech & Eco Products Exhibition and Conference (IGEM 2022) at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC). UM is represented by Professor Ir. Dr. Shaliza Ibrahim, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Research and Innovation, accompanied by Professor Dr. Siti Nursheena Mohd Zain (Director, International Relations Centre), Associate Professor Dr. Zeeda Fatimah Mohamad (Director, UMSDC), Academy of Islamic Studies management team, and respective UM researchers.

This sustainability partnership marks a new chapter between UM researchers from the Imarah Green Mosque team and MGTC's Rumah Ibadat Hijau flagship program. This collaboration covers two key areas i) research and capacity building and ii) active participation in the development and execution of the Malaysia Green Mosque workshop and training. The scope of the collaboration seeks to contribute towards publication, knowledge transfer (environmental ethics campaign and carbon emission reduction monitoring and intervention), capacity building, and green innovation.

UMSDC also participated in IGEM 2022 as an exhibitor from 12 to 14 October 2022. Special thanks to MGTC for the in-kind sponsorship of a complimentary booth.

The MoU signed is also an expansion of the collaborative works of the UM researchers team with the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department (JAWI) on Green Mosque adoption as aspired in the Pelan Pengimarahan Masjid-Masjid Wilayah Persekutuan 2020-2024. Congratulations and best wishes to the UM and MGTC teams!
