UM Delegation (Researchers, Staff, and Student Leaders)
participated in the International Sustainable Energy Summit (ISES) 2022
Hosted by Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA) Malaysia
in collaboration with the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources (KeTSA)

29-30 August 2022 (Monday & Tuesday) 9 am - 5 pm @ Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC)

The International Sustainable Energy Summit (ISES) 2022, with a forward-looking vision of 'Empowering Energy Transition,' is a knowledge-based platform focusing on renewable energy and energy efficiency. The Summit spans two days with two key components: knowledge sharing (conference, plenary sessions, and deep-dive workshops) and business interactions via exhibition and business matching sessions.

Prime Minister of Malaysia, YAB Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, officiated the Summit. In his speech, he stated that the current global trend in pursuing carbon footprint reduction targets has positively impacted Malaysia. Malaysia will soon launch the preliminary report of the Malaysia Energy Transition Outlook (METO) study. The METO final report will guide the country's energy transition until 2050, which is also aligned to significantly contribute to Malaysia's aspiration to be a carbon-neutral nation by 2050.

Among other notable sessions:

  1. Environment, Social, and Governance for the business sector on energy,

  2. Green Circular Economy,

  3.  Low Carbon Energy and Carbon Capture,

  4. Youth Empowerment: Save for the Future - highlighting the role of youth empowerment and advocacy in supporting the energy transition.

14 UM researchers, staff, and student leaders participated in ISES2022: UM Sustainability and Development Centre (UMSDC), Department of Development and Estate Maintenance (JPPHB), Property and Development Office, and UM SDG Youth Ambassadors. Special thanks to SEDA Malaysia for the opportunity to actively participate in ISES 2022 through the in-kind sponsorship of 14 complimentary passes through UMSDC for a total of RM5,432. Congratulations to UM Centre for Energy Sciences of the Faculty of Engineering UM for representing UM as an exhibitor.

Universiti Malaya is now subscribed to the Government's Green Electricity Tariff (GET) initiative to enable consumers to reduce their carbon footprint in electricity consumption. With the implementation of GET Programme, the consumers will have an option to purchase a low-carbon electricity supply without having to install their own solar rooftop or other renewable energy installations.
