DOWNLOAD THE ZERO SINGLE-USE PLASTICS GUIDELINE
UM Sustainable Development Centre (UMSDC) has identified several strategies to reduce the use of single-use plastics that can be implemented at Universiti Malaya. During the Transition Phase (from August 8, 2024, to October 31, 2024), this implementation will involve a phased replacement of single-use plastic bottles, particularly mineral water bottles, with glass bottles, water jugs, and similar alternatives.
Full implementation of the guidelines and zero single-use plastics policy will take effect on November 1, 2024.
This initiative has the potential to positively impact the university’s international rankings, such as the UI GreenMetric World University Ranking (UIGM), QS World University Rankings – Sustainability, and Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings. Therefore, we hope that all parties can support and cooperate in the successful implementation of this initiative in line with the sustainability agenda of Universiti Malaya.
