Universiti Malaya Sustainability and Development Centre (UM SDC)


  1. To champion Universiti Malaya’s sustainability agenda based on the UM Sustainability Policy.

  2. To inspire a creative and entrepreneurial mindset by creating opportunities for innovation toward a sustainable campus and society.


  1. Governance: To initiate, facilitate and manage sustainable development activities for UM through the management of three main entities: Eco-campus @ UM, Rimba Ilmu, and Makerspace@UM.

  2. Long-term sustainability strategy: To do conduct strategic planning for UM’s transition and contribution towards a sustainable future.

  3. Ranking, monitoring, and reporting: Collect data, monitor, and coordinate information on greening (input: UI GreenMetric World University Rankings), SDG (input: Times Higher Education Impact Rankings), & Environment, Social, and Governance (input: ESG for QS World University Rankings) activities to improve UM’s international standing in sustainability efforts.

  4. Innovation: Provide spaces and facilities for creative and innovative development programs.

  5. Capacity building: Provide training to inculcate a creative and innovative entrepreneurial outlook for sustainability.

  6. Network & Collaboration: Establish networks within and outside the campus from various disciplines in the area of sustainability.
