On 14th May 2025, UMSDC welcomed a visit from the PSU Volunteer Center, a department of Prince of Songkla University (PSU) in Thailand. The PSU Volunteer Center organizes activities and projects that serve communities across Thailand. Their visit included a half-day sharing session between UM and PSU to exchange knowledge about volunteering for sustainable development. A total of 30 students and 10 staff members from the PSU Volunteer Center attended.
On behalf of UM, we would like to express our gratitude to Habeebah Cheatae, the coordinator of the PSU Volunteer Center, for organizing this trip, as well as the PSU Volunteer Center students who presented and shared insights about their initiatives.
We also extend our heartfelt thanks to Professor Dr. Yvonne Lim Ai Lian, Associate Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International), for delivering the welcome remarks, and to Associate Prof. Dr. Zeeda Fatimah Mohamad for her sharing on sustainability initiatives at UM. Our appreciation goes to Associate Professor Dr. Vishalache Balakrishna, UM's SULAM Coordinator, for her insightful sharing on Service Learning Malaysia-University for Society (SULAM), covering approaches to SULAM, its beneficiaries, effective practices, and examples of SULAM in action.
We are grateful to Alya Maisarah from UMCares Club and Sanjeef Kumr Subramaniam from The Planet Prodigy (TPP) for sharing their volunteering activities both on and off campus.
Lastly, we extend our thanks to UM Water Warriors for their presentation on Tasik Varsiti and for conducting citizen science activities with the students at the UM Greenbelt, which concluded the visit.
